Denise attended the High School Of Art & Design. Eventually moving to California from the east coast, she found herself around working artists. Denise had the good fortune of learning from some of L.A.'s acclaimed painters. She studied drawing and painting at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art in Van Nuys, CA., worked under the tutelage of Sergio Sanchez, Ignat Ignatov and Joseph Todorovich, at the school and then attended each of their private studies sessions. As well she studied with Aaron Westerberg and the late Glen Orbik at the renowned California Art Institute. Since then she has been embarking on the pursuit of honing her skills, studying light on form and color. When returning from California she has made a home for herself in Bergen County, New Jersey. She finds great pleasure in teaching the 'alla prima' method (at first attempt) of wet into wet paint to students of all levels wanting to better understand the medium. Denise’s paintings can be found in collections throughout the country.  

In this class, students will study floral & still life in oils with a focus on alla prima painting. This class is for students of all levels. We will paint using direct methods, wet into wet. Students can expect demos and individual time spent one on one as needed. We will paint from observation, from thin washes to thicker passages. We'll talk about intentionally directing the viewer's gaze in and around the still life of multiple objects.  Emphasis is placed on seeing relationships, finding rhythms, organizing values, and using brushwork and edges to create an engaging composition.
