Mary Zisk grew up in Ridgewood, NJ, always making art. Starting at age nine, she took oil painting lessons from a neighbor. The strong art programs in the Ridgewood school system exposed her to all types of mediums.

Mary began her career as a magazine graphic designer in NYC, but used vacation time to see the world while painting and drawing. She studied with Parsons School of Design in Paris and the Dordogne, with Pratt Institute in China and Italy, with The School of Visual Arts in Urbino, Italy, and attended artist workshops in Hawaii, Death Valley, Utah, and England. Her sketchbooks from those trips are her most valued possessions.

After 50 years in publishing, Mary retired and returned to her first love of oil painting. She is always learning and gives herself assignments painting still lifes, portraits, and landscapes. She has captured familiar Ridgewood landmarks in oil and sells prints of them.
