Class Supply List

Pastel  Supplies

Students are encouraged to bring a large assortment of pastels. Half stick set provide more colors at a lower cost. I suggest a set of hard pastels such as Nupastel, medium hardness sets of Rembrandts or Art spectrum, and softer pastels such as Sennelier, Terry Ludwig, Richeson, Great American, Girault or Schmincke.

A set of pastel pencils is useful for details, drawing and blending. Some brands are CarbOthello, Conte, or Cretacolor. Bring hand sharpeners or knives to keep them sharp.

I use and highly recommend sanded papers or boards. UArt papers can be purchased in many grits from 240-800 grit. I prefer 400 grit. Other choices are pastel premier sanded paper, pastel boards by Ampersand, Art Spectrum colorfix, Sennelier la carte, and Richeson premium paper. Canson mi-teintes is acceptable but doesn’t accept many layers.

Bring a needed eraser, drawing board or foam core board as backing, clamps or masking tape, vine charcoal, hand wipes, rubber gloves, and smock.

A dust catcher will keep your pastels and the floor clean and can be made from aluminum foil or a scored piece of cardboard or foam core board (6”x20”)

Sheets of glassine or tracing papers to protect paintings.
