Course Materials List Drawing and Oil Painting for Adults: Beginner to Advanced Class

Drawing Materials: 
Graphite Pencils of varying hardnesses, i.e. H, HB, B, 2B, 4B
Charcoal Sticks of varying hardnesses from hard to soft
Vine Charcoal
Kneaded Eraser and/or Chamois Cloth (for erasing charcoal)
Pencil Sharpener and/or sandpaper (for non-standard sizes of graphite or charcoal)
Stumps for blending
Medium Weight Drawing Pad (No newsprint), suggested size: 18 x 24
Medium tooth Charcoal Pad, suggested size: 18 x 24 or smaller
Oil Painting Materials:
Wooden or Tempered Glass Palette (the bigger the better so as to allow ample color mixing space)
Masterson Oil Painting Palette Box (Red Lid) is suggested for storing glass palettes but ensure that the palette is the right dimensions for it)
Glass scraper for cleaning palette
Trowel-shaped Palette Knives for mixing colors on the palette
Acrylic Gesso for re-priming store-brought, shrink-wrapped canvasses 
Turpenoid, Gamsol or other ODORLESS Mineral Spirits for thinning paint and rinsing brushes
Soap for cleaning brushes
Large Brush Cleaner (the all-aluminum variety with air-tight seal is suggested)
Small containers/cups for holding liquid mediums
Liquin Original or your preferred medium so long as it is odorless (the classic is 1 part Turpenoid/1 part Linseed Oil/1 part Damar Varnish)
Paper Towels (Viva suggested) or rags for wiping paint off your palette and brushes and for clean-up
BRUSHES
Assorted Bristle Filberts, suggested sizes: i.e. 5, 7, 9, 11
Assorted Bristle Flats , suggested sizes, i.e. 5, 7, 9, 11
1 Bristel Bright, suggested size: 3 or 4, for “drawing” in paint on canvas
GROUND
Pre-stretched Canvas 
   -linen is preferable, but cotton is perfectly ok for class work
   -oil-primed surface is best, but acrylic-primed is ok so long as it is re-primed with additional gesso layers
    -a variety of smaller sizes from 8 x 10 to 14 x 18 is suggested for still-life work and larger, medium sizes from 16 x 20 on is suggested for portraits and figurative work
