Joe Hing Lowe came to the United States from his native China in 1950, and in 1958 began formal art training. He won a 5-year scholarship from the Salmagundi Club and later pursued private studies. After thirty years of teaching, Mr. Lowe says that knowledge is like gold in his pocket - gold that is unselfishly shared with his many students.
He has won many awards, including two American Artists Professional League Gold Medals, a National Arts Club Silver Medal, Allied Artists, Hudson Valley Art Association and Salmagundi Club awards, and the 1989 Exceptional Merit Award from the Pastel Society. He is a master pastelist, and a member of the Pastel Society Hall of fame.
Joe Hing Lowe is an accomplished instructor in all media. Subjects taught include still life, portraiture and figure. His Friday morning class is well attended by students both in oil painting and pastel. He also lectures, demonstrates and serves as a juror.
He is listed in Who's Who in American Art and has been featured in articles in Palette Talk, Artists Magazine, and The New York Times. His works are represented in private and public collections, and also appears in The Best of Pastel 2 and The Best of Sketching and Drawing (Rockport Publishers).
