Celestine Murphy Hoffman has conducted a rewarding and perceptive Saturday morning class for young students. Her teaching covers still life, portrait and landscape painting. The success of her teaching methods - her ability to communicate basic fundamentals and nurture the creative process within each individual - is clearly shown in the annual Young People's Show.
Strong, simple form marks all of her work. The color that stems from the prismatic flow of light illuminates her work and reveals a natural understanding of composition. Her primary focus is portraiture, and she has received many commissions throughout the east.
Her principal teacher was Arthur Maynard. She is a member of the American Artists Professional League. She is a graduate of the Maryland Institute, College of Art, with a diploma in Costume Design. She received her BA degree in Fine Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson University, her MPS-ATR from Pratt Institute, and an Honorary BFA degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Mrs. Hoffman is also a certified teacher holding a masters degree in professional studies and special education, and is a registered art therapist. She was instrumental in helping to create a Learning Through the Arts program for special needs students.
