
William Brown's students learn still life and landscape painting. An
emphasis is placed on prismatic light and atmospheric effect which is the
basis of all fine painting. He explains the principles of painting so both
new and more experienced artists will have a better understanding of
what they are seeking to achieve.
Mr. Brown brings to his class years of "on location" and studio painting
experience and knowledge. He studied with John Phillip Osborne for
eight years. Mr. Brown's ongoing study of landscape painting has taken
him throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean.
Mr. Brown's work has received much recognition. His work has been
exhibited in New York at the American Artists Professional League,
Hudson Valley Art Association and the Audubon Artists Society.
Awards received include the Grumbacher Gold Medal and Honorable
Mention from the Hudson Valley Art Association. Several galleries
currently represent Mr. Brown and his work is in many private collections.
He is a life member of the Ridgewood Art Institute and holds a seat on
the Board of Trustees.
William Brown teaches the Adult Education Oil Painting Class. This class is part of the Ridgewood Art Institute's Community Education program held in cooperation with the Ridgewood Community School.
